Hello and welcome to my Blog, my name is Chris, a bus driver for First Mendip based in Wells, Somerset. I am Chair and H&S rep for the depot branch of Unite the Union. Married to Fiona, we live in Midsomer Norton near Bath, with Boots the cat. My main hobby is Amateur Radio and I hold the call sign G4KVI. I am the repeater keeper for GB3UB and MB7UB. I have a fascination for the weather and all things to do with nature and science. As a Christian I worship, when shifts allow at St. Nicholas Church in Radstock. These are my observations on my life, both at work and at home.

MOT

That time of year again for the trip to the MOT station. As I am working most of the day now it was down to Fiona. I did it expect it to fail as it had a large crack on the windscreen. Anyway £35 latter and yes it did fail.
On - Front Windscreen £50
         Windscreen Wipers!! £10
Mobile phone holder in wiper sweep!
          Ball joint worn £50

Not bad for a 'p' reg car. Did have an advisory for the front tyre so will get those done ASAP.

Smelly Day

Off today, managed to fix the bike. Usual wiring problem so spent some some time checking over the wiring and found a couple of potential problems. In the process of working on the bike discovered the drain outside was over flowing. The next door neighbour was also having problems. For those that don't know we live in a  house built around 1870, the drains therefore are 'intersting'. The drains of all four houses end up in the same drain in another neighbours courtyard. So the afternoon was spent trying to unblock this. Tried drain rods but to no avail, in the end I managed to get a hosepipe up the drain and blast the obstruction out. Despite a shower and washing all my clothes I can still smell the result!! Working for  four hours tomorrow and then off until Tuesday.

New Shifts

Started a new shift rota this week. Longer hours (50) but only 5 days a week. Only one week of earlies and most starts are between 0830 and 1000 and finishes between 1900 and 2030. This would have been great had the bike not let me down. I am currently waiting for the bike shop to get back to me and let me know the damage. I assume it to be the clutch return spring that has broken, but we will see. It is a bit strange not having to get up before 0600 but due to the bike problems having to get the bus back and forth so having to get up a liitle earlier than I would hoped. Still gives me time to read a book.
