Hello and welcome to my Blog, my name is Chris, a bus driver for First Mendip based in Wells, Somerset. I am Chair and H&S rep for the depot branch of Unite the Union. Married to Fiona, we live in Midsomer Norton near Bath, with Boots the cat. My main hobby is Amateur Radio and I hold the call sign G4KVI. I am the repeater keeper for GB3UB and MB7UB. I have a fascination for the weather and all things to do with nature and science. As a Christian I worship, when shifts allow at St. Nicholas Church in Radstock. These are my observations on my life, both at work and at home.

If Jesus was a Bus Driver
Christians always try to act like Jesus. However, most fall very short of this and many spend time beating themselves up for this completely forgetting that they are indeed human. We can though try and act in a way that others see something in us that they want. So back to the title. What would it be like to have Jesus driving the bus?

Mobile Phones and Driving
Despite the the risk of a large fine etc I am still amazed that many people still use their mobile phones while driving. Over the last couple of days I have seen a few including a lady with children in the car so engrossed in her conversation she has gone straight through a red light and a driver of a well done transport company also deeply engrossed in conversation.
I really cannot understand anyone using a handheld phone while driving, the dangers are well documented.
So what can we do about it. The campaign against drink driving was such a success that it became a socially unacceptable activity. I have a few ideas to how this can be applied to the use of mobiles.
1. If you call a mobile always ask if the person is driving, if they are hang up.
2. If you receive a call from a mobile again ask if they are hands free, if not hand up.
3. If you a passenger and the driver is using a mobile demand they cease.
4. Spread the word about the dangers of mobile use.
For some facts have a look at

Happy Easter
Happy Easter to you all. Enjoy the time with family and friends, but try and take some time to remember the true meaning of Easter.
This link would be a good start.

Acts 2:24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

A Bird on the Bus
When I get home I always tell Harvey if I have had a dog on the bus, silly I know but.. Today after leaving a stop in Batheaston I noticed a squeaking, it seemed to be only when I turned. As I went along I wondered if I had hit a bird and it was stuck in the grill at the front. When I arrived at Bathford I got out have a look. The noise had got louder and appeared to be coming from the saloon. Turns out it was a Budgie who was on his way to the vet!! Wonder what breakdown would have said if I called them out??

Think Bike
Ok, here I am back at the RUH. Fortunately this time I have been able to walk in. The reason is that on the way to work this morning some bright spark failed to look before he pulled out of a side turning. I did see him and had stopped but could do nothing to prevent the inevitable. All I could do is watch as the vehicle came at me and tried to go through me! Result is a painful shoulder and back. Hopefully I will get out of here before midnight.
